Long Term Residence Permit In Turkey

Long-term residence permits are regulated under Articles 42 to 45 of the foreigners and International Protection Law No. 6458. In addition, long-term residence permits are regulated in articles 40 to 43 of the regulation on the application of the Foreign and international protection law.
Who Are The Foreigners Who Can Be Granted Long-Term Residence Permits?

– Long-term residence permit can be issued by the governorates with the approval of the Ministry to foreigners who have stayed in Turkey without interruption for at least eight years with a residence permit or who comply with the conditions determined by the Immigration Policy Board.

– Refugees, holders of conditional refugee and secondary protection status, holders of humanitarian residence permits and temporary protection are not granted the right to transition to long-term residence permits.

How Many Years Can A Long-Term Residence Permit Be Arranged?

Long-term residence permits are issued indefinitely.

What Are The Long Term Residence Permit Requirements?

For long-term residence permits to be issued, foreigners must meet the requirements set out in Article 43 of the law.

– To have lived in Turkey with a residence permit for at least eight years without interruption (38 of the law on the calculation of eight years without interruption. Half of the student residence permit period and all of the other residence permits are counted in the article.),

– Not receiving social assistance in the last three years,

– To have sufficient and regular income to provide for himself or his family, if any,

– To have valid health insurance,

– Not to pose a threat to public order or public safety (except for foreigners deemed appropriate by the Immigration Policy Board)
What are the reasons why long term residence permits are not refused, cancelled or extended?

– A foreigner posing a serious threat to public order or public safety

– Being outside Turkey for more than one year without interruption for a reason other than health, education and compulsory public service in his country,

Cancellation of long-term residence permit is carried out by the governorates.
