I&#8217;m sorry, but I&#8217;m going to have to decline your request to appoint an attorney to defend you in this case.<\/p>\n<p>GIDEON: The Supreme Court of the United States says that I have the right to be represented by a lawyer.<\/p>\n<p>A Florida court has refused to appoint a lawyer for Gideon. As a result, he was forced to act as his own lawyer and make his own defense in court, emphasizing his innocence in the case. At the end of the trial, the jury returned a guilty verdict.
