Application Authority and procedure
\nApplications are made to the governorship where the settlement is located in person or by special power of Attorney related to the exercise of this right. Applications made by mail are not accepted.
\nApplications for citizenship of persons who are not adults or lack the power to distinguish are made by their parents or guardians.
\nForeign identification number is based on applications and transactions.
\nAs the date of application, the date of receipt of the person’s form petition to the registration of documents by the application authority is taken as the basis.
\nA foreigner who wants to acquire Turkish citizenship can be found outside Turkey for a total of no more than six months during the requested residence period. A total period not exceeding six months spent outside Turkey is evaluated within the prescribed period of residence.
\nIf a foreigner spends more than six months outside Turkey during the period of residence, or is in Turkey for more than six months without a valid residence permit or without a residence permit, the period of residence before this date is not taken into account.
\nA residence in Turkey without a legal residence permit or with a residence permit obtained for purposes such as asylum or asylum applicant, asylum seeker, education, tourist, accompanying, treatment of a child studying, or with a foreign mission personnel ID card that provides immunity with diplomatic or Consular Privileges is not considered a valid residence for obtaining Turkish citizenship.
\nIf the reasons for residence that are not accepted in the acquisition of Turkish citizenship and the person who is in Turkey are connected to the residence for a reason that is later considered valid, the previous residence periods are also taken into account. This provision does not apply to those who reside in Turkey with a residence permit for tourist purposes.
\nCertification of official documents issued by foreign authorities is carried out in accordance with article 167 of the regulation on the application of the law on Population Services.
\nForeigners who want to obtain Turkish citizenship must have Turkish translation and notarized documents such as diplomas, passports obtained from foreign authorities submitted during the application.
